Expansion of Wicklow Station Car Park, Co. Wicklow

Works consisted of the extension of the existing small car park at Wicklow Train Station to include for 77 car spaces, 4 mobility impaired spaces, 3 bus and 18 cycle spaces. The works involved site clearance, earthworks, reinforced concrete retaining wall up to 5m high with Wicklow granite masonry cladding, drainage, electrical ducting, lamp post installation, fencing and line painting. Works were phased to accommodate the continued opening of the existing county council footpath. The majority of the works were carried out from within a hoarding line and there was no works which directly affected railway operations, however the Iarnród Eireann Permanent Way compound was kept accessible to vehicles on a 24 hour basis 7 days a week. Extensive drainage was required which involved a double layer of porous asphalt macadam laid on a reservoir stone layer, herringbone drains and all pipework connected to a full retention petrol interceptor before discharge to river.
