Multeen River Viaduct Replacement Project, Dundrum

This project consisted of the replacement of existing viaduct over the Multeen River, Dundrum, Co.Tipperary with a new 3 span deck. The 3 no. 12m double track decks were cast on-site to incorporate new steel bridge structure ( supplied by IR ) and lifted into position during 36 hour TIII Possession using 1,100t mobile crane ( supplied by IR ). Each lift was approximately 150t. Ancillary works included Eliminator & Hytec waterproofing, bridge joints details and sealing same, coring existing masonry abutments and installation of 32mm dia 1.50m long dowels, grouted in position to receive new decks.

Slieve & Corbally OBM 714E

At this site Iarnród Éireann Level crossing XM100-101 were replaced by a single span skewed over bridge with associated approach embankments and the realignment of three local roads was required.

Works included reinforced earth wing walls, roadways, permanent fencing, safety barrier, drainage and stone pitched headwalls. An overhead telecom was diverted to underground ducting. The level crossing gates were removed and replaced with block work. Accommodation works for farmers included drainage, roadways, culverts and concrete driveways.

OB702 Roscommon Bridge Widening & Road Alignment

The existing bridge OB702 was widened to take the skew out of the road. The overbridge comprised of Opti-Cadre units and reinforced earth abutments.

The bridge was widened to the Claremorris side by approximately 10.5m while leaving the existing structure intact and maintaining traffic flow. The reinforced earth walls were constructed with little interference to the existing passing traffic and the railway line. Other works included palindine fencing, high level safety barrier and road surfacing. The work was necessary to create a straight road across the railway line to enable all local traffic to traverse the bridge safely. This project was the first of its type to use Opti-Cadre units to extend an existing bridge.

Geoghegans OBE 151a

This project involved the closure of two number Iarnród Eireann Level Crossing’s. The crossings were replaced by a single overbridge and associated approach embankments. The overbridge comprised of a contractor designed structure and contractor designed reinforced earth wing walls. Construction of the new Overbridge consisted of Precast Optri-Cadre units each weighing 36 tonnes and included precast concrete parapet units. A new access road with concrete post and wire fencing was constructed over a length of 1,200m to tie into the existing public road at one end and farm access road at the other end.

This project involved the closure of three number Iarnród Eireann Level Crossing’s. The crossings were replaced by a single overbridge and associated approach embankments. The overbridge comprised of a contractor designed structure and contractor designed reinforced earth wing walls. Construction of the new Overbridge consisted of 11.50m wide Precast Optri-Cadre units each weighing 36 tonnes and included precast concrete parapet units. The existing level crossing gates were taken down and closed to traffic. The new road was 4 metres wide with concrete post and wire fencing, and constructed over a length of 650m to tie into existing farmer access roads.

Caherduff OB142A

This project involved the closure of two number Iarnród Eireann Level Crossing’s. The crossings were replaced by a single overbridge and associated approach embankments. The overbridge comprised of a contractor designed structure and contractor designed reinforced earth wing walls. Construction of the new Overbridge consisted of 11.50m wide Precast Optri-Cadre units each weighing 36 tonnes and included precast concrete parapet units. The existing level crossing gates were taken down and closed to traffic. The new road was 4 metres wide with concrete post and wire fencing, and constructed over a length of approximately 1,000m to tie into existing public roads.

OB132 Bridge Renewal, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway

The existing metal deck bridge was replaced with a precast concrete bridge. The works involved the removal of the steel bridge , placing of precast bedstones, beams and retaining wall units. Installation of an Aluminium Bridge parapet , double height crash barrier , fencing, road surfacing , telecom and water diversion. The bridge was assessable to traffic after four days.

Bridge Renewal Project OB121, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway

The existing metal deck bridge was replaced with a pre-cast concrete bridge. Works included removal of the steel bridge, placing pre-cast concrete bed stones, beams and parapet walls. Diversion of existing services, extensive retaining wall structures with faced gabions, permanent fencing, pre-cast concrete safety barriers and accommodation works for local residents.

At this site Iarnród Eireann Level Crossing XE46 was replaced by a single Overbridge and associated approach embankments, access roads and drainage. The Overbridge comprised of contractor designed structure and reinforced earth abutments.

Newbridge Station Accessibility Works

Renewal of a Railway Overbridge OB-67

This project involved the renewal of a railway overbridge OB67, Clarecastle, Co Clare on the Limerick / Ennis line. The works consisted of the demolition of the existing bridge deck, stone arch and the provision of containment approach walls. The works involved the placing of a new deck of precast pre-stressed beams with precast concrete parapets and precast concrete retaining walls. The works involved substantial site set up and clearance adjacent to the existing deck and approaches.
